SITUATION

From July 11 to 18, 2026, during the 20th UECT European Week, cycling tourists from all over Europe will be welcomed in Heerenveen, a historic city of 50,000 inhabitants founded in 1551, located in the province of Friesland in the northwestern Netherlands.

The German border is only 96 km away, and the North Sea is 30 km away. LOCATION MAP

The province of Friesland is known for its agriculture, livestock farming, and tourism, featuring large lakes and the Frisian Wadden Islands. It offers landscapes typical of the Netherlands, with its canals, windmills, Saxon farms and numerous picturesque villages.

The climate here is temperate oceanic.

The “Friesland” region will surprise every cycling tourist with the diversity of its landscapes. From the secluded woods of southeastern Friesland and vast farmlands to the wild coasts of the Wadden Sea and the dikes of Lake Ussel. You’ll cycle along rippling lakes, bustling harbors, and typical lakeside villages.
