The former president of the Asturian Cycling Federation, Jose Luis Junquera (third from the left), was elected this weekend (January 14, 2017) as president of the new Spanish Cycling Tourism Federation (FECT).
In his inaugural address, Jose stated that cycle touring is a philosophy of life and that it should be a sport centered on health, tourism, family, and culture—but without a competitive spirit.
We cycle tourists must all respect traffic laws on the road and in the city, and if French cycle tourists serve as an example—with the FFCT’s well-organized operations—we can do the same.
For this reason, the new FECT wishes to expand its activities in the areas of children’s programs, tourism, road safety, and events such as the Camino de Santiago, the Canal de Castilla, or routes along former railroad tracks. Jose Luis Junquera announced that European Cycle Tourism Week could be held in Asturias or Galicia in the coming years (2019 or 2020), allowing the FECT to bring together a large number of clubs across the country.
